Father John Riccardo looks back on his decision to become a priest, and the beauty and power of encountering Jesus. Father John is a favorite guest on the program The Choices We Face from Renewal Ministries.
Fr. John Riccardo was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1996. He is the youngest of five children and a graduate of The University of Michigan. After working for several years in the professional world, he entered the seminary to begin studies for the priesthood. He studied philosophy at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, studied theology at the Gregorian University in Rome and received a Sacred License in Theology (S.T.L.) from The Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family. Since 2007, Fr. John has served as pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth, Michigan. He formerly has served as the Director of the Cardinal Maida Institute located at St. John Center for Youth and Family in Plymouth, Michigan.
Fr. John’s program, Christ is the Answer, focuses on catechetical teachings. He is an expert on John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. He is a very popular speaker and teacher at pro-life and church events.
In the liturgical celebration of the Holy Mass we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. In the Holy Mass we can really and truly meet Jesus. The Holy Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1324
In Jesus we find hope despite life’s challenges, and fulfillment of the deepest longings of our hearts. As Father John teaches, our restless hearts find true peace and joy when we encounter Jesus. Jesus Christ is the answer.
Jesus thirsts for you.
Go to him and he will love you,
no matter what you have done.
This inspiring meditation was written by Saint Mother Theresa and read by Fr John Riccardo.
